I think about it all the time. I think about all the reasons why. I try different ways of convincing myself to get started. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I put a lot of thought into trying to figure out where the block is. Why don't I want to get started? Surely the carbs I give up are nothing compared to the benefits I would reap. Right?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My current idea is that maybe setting a start date would be the key. Or at least &lt;em&gt;a&lt;/em&gt; key to get me moving on this slope.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So I'm going to set something realistic (ie. tomorrow is not realistic). Just the same as I always do.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My theory is if I don't have anything new that can help me, I may as well just keep repeating the same stuff over and over until I get it through my thick head.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So today I think I will list all the positive things I get out of being fat, and then see if I can find their exact opposite which might eventually help me make a change.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What living a fat lifestyle has going for it:&lt;ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Every option at a restaurant is open to choose from&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I can eat a range of unpackaged and prepackaged foods as I choose&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I can eat anything friend's provide when I visit them for dinner&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Going out for drinks with friends is always an option&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I don't have to take food with me if I stay over at a friend's or otherwise wont get home/to a kitchen to make food&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I can skip meals if I want to&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I don't have to deal with comments from people about my weight changing&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I don't have to get up early to prepare breakfast or any meal&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I enjoy feeling like I'm not attracting anyone's attention when I walk passed&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And now the other side of the coin, what being skinny has going for it:&lt;ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;I will spontaneously go out with the bf and his mates without thinking inside that he might get picked on by his friends for me being fat &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I wont have to move so far over to squish passed people in a small opening &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Less backfat from a bra &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I wont have to squish my fat arms in so much at the theatre/cinema/anywhere I have to sit next to someone &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I will be able to cross my legs again! And, no, I don't mean the ankle cross, I mean up at the thigh! &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I wont have to fuss over how clothes are sitting on me to cover up particular areas&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I will have more energy in the morning from good foods that I will want to get up a touch earlier to actually do my hair, more than a quick brush or put in a pony tail &lt;/li&gt;I will have a general feeling of being able to move around better, taking up less space &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I wont have such heavy footsteps when walking around &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I'll be able to go caving without wondering about moving around and getting through spaces and my general size &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And the reality of living now:&lt;ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;I find it hard to find clothes&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I get grumpy in yoga because I can't move parts of me certain ways due to my [insert body part here] getting in the way&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I get pins and needles way too easily and often&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I worry I'm judged at work because of my size&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I feel messy when I eat around people, like I have a fat face that is just scoffing food&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Sex life could be better&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;I just feel large, generally large&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How did I get here?&lt;ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;I used to be the skinny friend, the more attractive one. I still haven't got through all the reading as my mind is full of fog (not to mention other stuff which my three boxes of tissues are helping clear) so I still don't have a proper understanding of what I should be doing. Grabbed the two protein drinks I'd prepared last night and the meat and salad container and headed off to work.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Left work just passed 11am, feeling like death.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's currently 1.15pm and I have had that protein drink while at work and the salad while home. I'll have the other pre-prepared drink tomorrow so I don't have to make up any new ones.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Feeling hungry, want to eat the easiest thing laying around. Could do with a good milky coffee too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Can only blame myself though - I've had two out of the six meals for today and it's passed lunch time, I've also only had one out of the 12 glasses of water I'm supposed to have. Feeling a bit out of sorts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Had a HUGE weekend this weekend and last weekend so I didn't have the 'few hours' to go over all of the rules and guidelines and also my exercise plan. Honestly though, I am booked in for Yoga tonight, not sure if I want to change it to something more rigorous. I want to get well.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I keep fighting the urge to argue with the food plan and my "I know better" attitude lol. I think I'm doing ok with it so far though. But it's still early.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So that's the update so far.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Feeling under prepared, hungry but don't want to eat, haven't had enough to drink, have a headache, aching joints and a nose that wont stop (obviously not related to food, I've caught a bug from someone).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;EDIT: OK I don't get this AT ALL. How if I don't get home from work until 5pm and I have Yoga 6-7pm am I supposed to cook and eat dinner? A. Now I have a history :)&lt;br /&gt;Not lc though, I even tried to find/make an lc version some years ago but without success.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The Anzac (biscuit) story&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;By Rebecca Davies&lt;br /&gt;23 April 2010&lt;br /&gt;NineMSN&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's Anzac Day this Sunday, so here's the story of how these tasty treats actually came about.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The past…&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anzac biscuits have always been associated with Australian and New Zealand soldiers in World War I. Legend says that the wives, mothers and girlfriends left at home were concerned that their fighting men were not getting food of any nutritional value, so they cooked up a recipe for treats that they would both enjoy and nutritionally benefit from.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Made from ingredients including rolled oats, coconut, flour and sugar, these biscuits were ideal to send to soldiers abroad because they kept well and would survive the long transit to the frontlines. At first, they were named "soldiers' biscuits", but were renamed Anzac biscuits upon landing in Gallipoli.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The present&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nowadays, Anzac biscuits are manufactured commercially and sold in supermarkets all year round. RSLs all over the country also regularly use them as a fundraising item to raise money for veteran soldiers. They have become worldwide fare and are apparently still issued to Canadian troops at Christmas time. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The recipe&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 cup rolled oats&lt;br /&gt;1 cup plain flour&lt;br /&gt;1 cup brown sugar&lt;br /&gt;½ cup desiccated coconut&lt;br /&gt;125g butter&lt;br /&gt;2 tablespoon golden syrup&lt;br /&gt;1 tablespoon water&lt;br /&gt;½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sift flour into a bowl and stir in oats, coconut and sugar. Melt butter, golden syrup and water in saucepan, then add bicarb. Stir into flour mixture. Place rounded teaspoons of mixture 5cm apart on greased baking trays and bake at 150°C for about 20 minutes or until biscuits feel almost firm. I really feel for people that have chronic back pain. It would take 10mins just to get out of bed (and loads of frustration and swear words) and although not one person mentioned it, not even the osteo or Dr, I know that having a large tummy really contributes to back weakness. The reason I joined Sureslim wasn't because I didn't know which eating plan to follow, it's because I wanted the face-to-face check in.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, a compromise is that I'm reconsidering joining IdealBodies - remember me talking about it a &lt;a href=http://erikasmenus.blogspot.com/2009/04/tuesday-14-april-2009.html&gt;few posts ago&lt;/a&gt;?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's not quite a face-to-face checkin, but the only others like that that I can find are over $100 a week (sometimes including food) and IdealBodies, though still not cheap, still is cheaper. I've also just found out a long time online friend of mine followed their program for 18 weeks last year and is still following the plan well and easily without them, so that's excellent!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyway that's where I'm at right now. I'll decide within the next couple of days whether I'll join up or not. :)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sooooooooooooo how is everyone else? I've already checked out Harry's and Vadim's blog, so I'm off to check out everyone else's now. The foods were ok, it was more the timing. I'm still working on it - it's probably the hardest part!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Oh exciting news, I went out for lunch with a girlfriend today and she suggested that we should do our own little club (just the two of us) to get motivated to lose some weight. She has about 20kgs to lose, I have about 30kgs. She has lost weight before just like I have. I thought it was a good idea at the time but it wasn't until Sunday that I thought actually it's a good kick up the bum  :)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;... it'll give me the opportunity to work on my 'mean' persona too, if she doesn't pull her weight on her end LOL. We have a catch up scheduled for next Sunday.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The plan is she will re-start WW and will weigh in on a Tues. I still weigh in with Sureslim on a Tues so Fri/Sat/Sun will be right in the middle and a quick pick-me-up. .... also, I know no excuse will work with her hehehe. I have gained 10kgs since then BUT in the cms is shows "minimal" (0.5-1cm) change all over except my bust where I have gained 6cm. No wonder I feel like I'm popping out of everything. I posted it on another forum as well. For Father's Day this year, my mum and my step-dad went to a winery about 30-40min away and had a gorgeous lunch. I had a vegetable lasagne (boy was I pleased when I found out it didn't contain any pasta!) which was mainly eggplant, capsicum and cheese. There were prob other veggies in there I couldn't identify, but it was really a veggie stack with some cheese. Yum! I skipped on dessert. Oh, had a sip of a really expensive wine too (just to see what expensive, award-winning wine was like).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So I've spent most of today and last night watching youtube vids with makeup and hair tutorials. I know NOTHING about makeup, never really wear the stuff. I didn't even know there was such thing as primer and although I tried to follow this, I don't own bronzer, brushes or much else of what she was using. Anyway, I was still pleasantly surprised so if I can make a day-time, work-appropriate version, I might see if I can make this a bit more regular. I've already picked up on my skin moisturisation and lip gloss (ah la &lt;a href=http://erikasmenus.blogspot.com/2009/05/wednesday-13-may-2009.html&gt;a post I made ages ago about grooming)&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, it's just the next step! In previous houses I didn't have a TV at all for a good 2 years and didn't miss it, but then things got a bit more complicated in my life and I guess I needed it a bit for the escapism, now a few days without is something. Can't say I miss it though.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;The only things I miss are the episodes of TV shows I like that I know aren't available on DVD so if I don't watch them when they are on I'll completely miss them.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Does anyone here consider themselves a mentor at all? Actually still as happy as Larry after my weigh in yesterday! I think what I really need to keep an eye on though, is making sure I get in every meal. I don't want my body to think I am under-eating and respond negatively. I spent a long time getting my metabolism back in good working order than I'd like to keep it there.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That's one of the reasons I had the reward meal yesterday (two pieces of vegemite on toast, two pieces of fudge - that's the last of it though - and two biscuits). But it didn't make me feel good. I am trying to un-condition myself with foods like these. If they make me feel yuk (especially the fudge) I need to remember and learn from it. But I'm not.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;So, being theoretical, do you think if I have X-amount of good experience with something and Y-amount of bad experiences with it, that X and Y need to be fairly similar in order to learn from it?&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Another example, if you have encountered a snake once and it was nice, then once again and it bit you, you might never touch another snake. If you encounter snakes 1000s of times and they're nice, then once and they bite you, you probably would take your chances again.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Do you think food is the same? Got lots of energy - I was running all over the place at the gym this morning with my trainer. Now it's after breakfast but before lunch and I'm really hungry. Not fun. I knew increasing my exercise would cause me to be hungry.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Will see my consultant tomorrow for my weigh in and to see how last week's 'reward meal' has affected me. I'm feeling really good, much thinner (though that might just be psychological) so I'm hoping it worked in my favour.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;I've noticed I don't have the get-up-and-go I used to have. I didn't have it before I started Sureslim either - do you think it could be age? I'm still trying to grapple with all the new things I'm discovering with age lol. It's just like I don't want to do anything - I don't want to cook, I don't want to make my bed, I don't want to do anything that ordinarily I just do without worrying about if I want to or not. Having said that, since Sureslim I've cut down on my caffeine in a major way - where I used to have four or more lattes throughout the day, now I'm only have part of one, if at all. I didn't finish it, but I had a bite and I think it was worth it to see his face.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dinner (finish 9.50pm) - two fillets of chicken from KFC (I tried to scrape as much crusting off as I could)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Skipping my cousin's bday this afternoon (again) because all my family do's seem to centre around food and I think it's silly. Why can't I go and not eat and not be put in the spotlight for it?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another gripe (must be the day for it!): I get annoyed at the lack of breakfast options on this plan. It's like I either have yogurt or eggs (which eggs are limited to three times a week) and that's it. I mean the other options are rolled oats (only if I'm desperate) and cheese (which I'm trying to reduce). It doesn't have a measurement for today's breakfast, for instance. No protein option. It was awesome!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I can't say I'm much of an Alice Cooper fan and I really didn't know any of his songs except for Poison, but it was so much fun - there was all sorts of other stuff going on on stage besides the music. It was like a whole show. They had ghosts as part of his nightmare, Alice and one of the ghosts then spent the rest of the show torturing and killing each other lol. It sounds disturbing but it was so theatrical that it was fun and over-the-top.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The audience was made up of people from around 8 years of age to easily in their sixties. Some dressed up, lots just looked like people you'd see on the street and wouldn't think twice about. Awesome!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Has anyone seen him before? I spoke to my consultant about it, we went over all the pros and cons and frequency, etc. It was a really good chat. We'll see how it affects my weight, though she did say she's more concerned about my health than my weight when talking about junk food, which stands to reason.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I left in two minds - half my brain focused on the short term (which means tolerating cravings until I reach goal and dealing with them then) and the other half on long term (which means satisfying them as I go so I don't have months worth of pent up frustration once I reach goal). The second half won.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So.... what did I have? Well believe it or not, the very first thing I had was a ham and mustard sandwich on seed bread. Yum! That's really what I wanted, lots of ham in it (proper ham, not the loaf style). I had a piece of mint fudge, two biscuits and felt ill. Ewwww I'm not looking forward to doing that again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Which is a good thing. They are super super strong today.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She will say 'no' but I'm going to try my best to convince my consultant tomorrow that a reward meal once a week is something I truly want to try out. I'll give it three weeks and if it's worse for my weight instead of better, I'll let it go.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Oh an embarrassing thing happened tonight, my dad asked me why a week or so ago I said the hamburger he made for me was nice, but then I didn't eat it. I can only guess he saw it in my rubbish (last night was garbage collection night). I fumbled an answer and somehow got out of giving him an excuse. What do I say? I could say hamburgers full of breadcrumbs (and I am off red meat still) in a gourmet bacon and cheese roll doesn't fit in with my current diet (I can't say 'eating') but that would open a gigantic can of worms with my mum. Urgh!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;UPDATE: It's started... I'm getting questions about dinner.... what is it, how much did I have, why don't I also have ----, when did I have it, why did I have &lt;i&gt;that&lt;/i&gt;. And being polite doesn't work, trust me. Spent the whole day at the Home Show which was so draining. After putting most of my 200g pack of smoked salmon onto the scales they read 55g so I really have no idea if the above measurements are accurate now. I'll have to get another set tomorrow.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well after my last post last night I had my multi vitamin and headed out to a good night with friends, instead of staying at home and grumbling. I didn't feel any more cravings for the whole night, didn't think about food one bit and woke up this morning feeling great! Thanks for letting my whinge a while, it helps hehe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Before I got out of bed I went over a few things in my mind. Like what got me to this size in the first place. The big factor is instant gratification. I got to this size because I wanted something 'now' and followed that. Starving right now and it's not even 5.30pm!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;TOM is coming up and it might have something to do with what I'm experiencing. I hope so.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thanks for the reminder about the supplements, I haven't been having any and I think it will really help. My serious concern though, is that supplements only make cravings more tolerable, they don't satisfy them. I'm worried I'll end up doing what I have done after following other plans which is following them to the letter, putting everything out of my mind that could saboutage it, and then when I'm "finished" or otherwise reach a particular point, I have to satisfy it all at once. Don't read any further if you're delicate.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Something that's been bothering me recently, over the last few weeks or a month or so, I've had like zero sex drive. It's just completely gone. What should I do to bring it back? And what happened to it in the first place?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Do you think it might be the lack of exercise? It's gone down to about once or twice a week only. I'm still on the pill, that hasn't changed. Maybe I've been on it for too long? Or maybe it's my calories, do you think they're too low and my body thinks it's in 'starvation mode'??&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's something that's really bothering me. My bf is starting to wonder if it's something about him.  :(&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another thing I want to note is that my cravings aren't going away. I can satisfy them a little bit but really they are just continuing. I can't sweeten my teas until I have them with a meal which means I don't sweeten them - if I did my meal wouldn't finish until later which means I would have to have the next meal later and it goes on. It throws the whole day of food out just because I want to sweeten my tea.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Actually I must make a confession...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My bf and I are considering pushing our wedding to 18-24months away (instead of 12 as planned) so we can have a better chance at getting the house off the ground. Rather than trying to do both at the same time and messing both up. Well, yesterday I thought about that and my first thought was that I could just throw Sureslim out the window and tuck into a huge, iced, jam-filled doughnut for another few months and start this again later. That's terrible!!
