Saturday 22 August 2009

Breakfast (finish 1.25pm) - seed mixture, 65g edam, 110g combination of cauliflower and zucchini, an apple.

Dinner (finish 9pm) - 140g smoked salmon with 145g zucchini and some lettuce, a pear, oil/vinegar.

I think my scales have broken. After putting most of my 200g pack of smoked salmon onto the scales they read 55g so I really have no idea if the above measurements are accurate now. I'll have to get another set tomorrow.

Well after my last post last night I had my multi vitamin and headed out to a good night with friends, instead of staying at home and grumbling. I didn't feel any more cravings for the whole night, didn't think about food one bit and woke up this morning feeling great! Thanks for letting my whinge a while, it helps hehe.

Before I got out of bed I went over a few things in my mind. Like what got me to this size in the first place. The big factor is instant gratification. I got to this size because I wanted something 'now' and followed that. If I do the same as I've always done, I'll get what I've always got.

Got up and went to the gym this morning, did a good workout with my trainer.

  1. Erika,

I'm happy you're feeling better ... probably due to your own good decisions. Good for you! :-)

You know, that impulsive drive is what gets most of us in trouble. Think of it's far reaching ramifications:

"That guy pissed me off. I'm going to go kick his butt!"

"That guy's a real jerk. I'll just realize that and move on. He's not worth the trouble."

The difference ... thinking things over and not ending up in jail! Same thing with food.

"That cupcake would taste so good right now. I'll just take the night off my diet. It's just one night!"

    or

"That cupcake looks great but not as great as the feeling of confidence that I'll have if I can control food, instead of letting food control me."

    It's all related, I think. :-)

BTW, something occurred to me about your cravings ... I seem to recall that you crave cheese frequently. That *may* indicate that your body needs something that cheese provides:

    + more calcium

    + more protein

    + more fat

Just another possibility that I thought I'd mention ... especially since most multivitamin/minerals don't contain much calcium.

    Enjoy your work-free days! :-)

  2. Very very good points!

Actually I've only recently had a cheese craving, usually I'm not much of a cheese person. I don't know what it is in cheese that I need though, I thought it was the fat but really I don't know.

Do you think I should add an extra calcium supp? My current multi contains calcium pantathenate 75mg, calcium ascorbate dihydrate 200mg, calcium citrate 200mg and a bunch of other stuff but that's all that contain the name 'calcium'.

  3. Erika,

I'm not sure what the total amount of "elemental calcium" your multi contains. By "elemental", I mean the actual amount of the mineral. For instance, "calcium ascorbate" is mostly vitamin C and "calcium pantothenate" is primarily vitamin B5. They both contain some calcium in the mix but aren't expressly intended as a calcium source.

You may want to experiment with adding a good calcium/magnesium supplement to your program. Just to see how it affects you.

I currently encourage my wife to take a calcium/magnesium citrate supplement that provides 600 mg of calcium and 300 mg of magnesium per serving.
